Dog on Duty

  • Assists with the development of finger isolation (an important fine motor skill)
  • Develops fine motor strength, control and performance
  • Primes finger muscles before handwriting and fine motor tasks
  • Improves fine motor performance

Uses

  • Use this as a transition activity before handwriting or fine motor tasks.  It will prime the intrinsic muscles of the hand, to improve handwriting and fine motor task performance.

Instructions

  1. Straighten all your fingers
  2. Bring your thumb, middle finger and ring finger together (like a pointy dog’s snout)
  3. Point your other two fingers up (like a dog’s ears pricked up)
  4. Move these two fingers back and forth (like a dog’s ears carefully listening to sounds from all around them)

Watch Points

  • All fingers straight
  • Pointer and pinkie moving
  • Do steps 1 to 3, and keep your fingers still in this position
