Worm Wave

  • Strengthens finger muscles
  • Improves control of individual fingers (which is important for successful completion of fine motor tasks)
  • Develops bilateral coordination (the coordination of both hands to complete a task)

Uses

  • A beneficial transition activity before handwriting or fine motor tasks. It will prime the intrinsic muscles of the hand, to help improve handwriting and fine motor task performance.

Instructions

  1. Make a fist with each of your hands
  2. Straighten both your thumbs, bow them down a few times, then return them into your fists
  3. Repeat step 2 with your pointer fingers, middle fingers, ring fingers and then pinkies.

Watch Points

  • Bending and straightening only one finger on each hand
  • Do Worm Wave with just one hand at a time
