Monkey Twist

  • Strengthens abdominal muscles
  • Improves trunk control, which is important for overall body control
  • Improves children’s ability to bring the hands, feet and eyes together and/or across their body to perform a task on the opposite side of their body

Uses

  • Use this as a fun class energiser, warm-up or fitness activity

Instructions

  1. Stand with your knees bent
  2. Twist your arms towards one side of you and your knees towards the other
  3. Jump to switch them to the opposite sides (your arms facing one way and your knees the other)

Watch Points

  • Upper body twisting in the opposite direction to lower body
  • Tummy muscles squeezed
  • Do the Monkey Twist with just your legs and then just your arms
